Next-Generation Agricultural Technologies for African Smallholders: A Critical Analysis of Promise and Implementation Challenges

A 2024 situational analysis by the ISAAA Africenter evaluates 47 emerging agricultural technologies across 12 African countries, identifying a 22-68% yield improvement potential but revealing critical adoption barriers including digital literacy gaps (63% of farmers), gender disparities (female access 39% lower), and infrastructure deficits (only 18% of rural areas with reliable electricity). The study employs a modified Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) framework to assess scalability constraints.
