Centering Smallholder Farmers in Agricultural Innovation Ecosystems: Evidence-Based Policy Imperatives

A policy analysis by SciDiplomacy Africa (2024) synthesizes empirical evidence demonstrating that participatory farmer engagement in agricultural innovation systems yields superior adoption rates (+37%) and socioeconomic returns (+28% household income) compared to top-down technology transfer models (see Figure 1). This review interrogates structural barriers and proposes institutional reforms to operationalize farmer-led innovation frameworks.
