About Dr. Denis Zofou

Dr. Denis Zofou (Cameroon) holds a PhD (Biochemistry/Pharmacology). With over ten-year university experience, he has been editorial board member and/or reviewer of the several peer-review journals.
As a One Health expert, Denis has substantially contributed in capacities of Thematic / Activity Lead Consultant for the USAID-AFROHUN One Health Workforce (OHW) and OHW-Next Generation Projects in Cameroon since 2016. Denis was involved in several One Health Workforce Planning and Development activities, and co-led the development of an innovative One Health Workforce Development Prototype Model, and One Health-oriented training curricula and in-service programs, notably in Wildlife Health, Veterinary Field Epidemiology and Public Health, Pharmacy, and Antimicrobial Stewardship.
He has contributed in strengthening capacities of local universities in disease Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) using e-learning approach.
Dr. Zofou's research focuses mainly on AMR, Disease diagnostics, and drug discovery from African pharmacopeia, targeting major tropical infectious diseases (malaria, typhoid, etc.), as well as HIV and some non-communicable diseases like diabetes. At the Medical Research & Applied Biochemistry Laboratory (MRABL) of the University of Buea, Dr. Zofou and collaborators have established a Drug Screening Platform including in vitro and in vivo systems. He is laureate of the 2014 TWAS-ROSSA Young Scientist Prize in Applied Sciences by the World Academy of Sciences, Regional Office for Sub-Saharan Africa. He is Affiliate of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS, Nairobi).
